OPENING RECEPTION SATURDAY, JAN 7, 4-6 PM

Transmitter is pleased to present Stop Making Sense Remix, a collaborative project in which all seven Transmitter co-directors select one work by an artist who remained unknown to the rest of the group until the day of installation. This exhibition premise was initially generated in 2018, and Transmitter’s co-directors continued to be intrigued by the curatorial conventions that are challenged when democratized contributions outweigh the single hierarchical vision of most group shows. Similar to the first time we played with this curatorial concept, the hurdles of bringing together seemingly disparate work forced the group to make intuitive decisions – both in relation to form and content - that resulted in new discoveries about the artists, their work, and our own curatorial expectations.

In addition to the element of surprise we have imposed on one another with this curatorial approach, these artists have chosen to participate in our ongoing benefit programming. As with previous iterations of our benefit exhibitions, these artworks are available for sale on our website and all sales are divided equally between the artist and a social justice organization that has a clear commitment to the success, justice and joy of their community. This year’s organization is Mayday Space, an ‘organizing center and events space for grassroots movements and community organizers… to amplify issues such as immigrant rights, food justice, tenants protections, gentrification and displacement, as well as broader global issues such as climate justice and Internet freedom.’
